As you search on the internet for a soulmate (or a friend) this Valentine’s Day, you may be astonished to know that Facebook, Bing, and a number of other businesses can come along for the ride. That’s because these companies have been in the marketing company, and monitoring everything you do — even your visits to internet dating sites — helps them target ads and consumer that is reveal.
Which shouldn’t be all that astonishing. As Recode’s Rani Molla has explained, these platforms typically don’t cost due to their solutions because their company models are mainly on the basis of the capability to gather individual information. Some businesses monitor you on internet dating sites significantly more than others, too. If the business behind Ghostery, a browser expansion that blocks information trackers, learned eight prominent datings web sites, including Match and OkCupid, it found that trackers from Twitter and Bing had been on every one of those.
